Below you will find information about working as a “hospitalero” in our hostel.

profile
We have written a
profile of the hostel "L'Esprit du Chemin". The profile includes background information on working as a “ hospitalero” at the hostel for those who may be interested. You will find more information in the chapter “hostel”, written for our (future) guests.

season 2012

In the 2012 season the “hospitalero” schedule is planned according to each week starting on Sundays and ending on Saturdays. If necessary, we can arrange another day to start or to end the scheduled period. However, in doing so, we like to avoid overlapping with other “hospitalero” schedules and keep gaps in scheduling to a minimum. In principle, we schedule “hospitaleros” on a “first come, first served” basis.

The coloured weeks in the schedule are already “full”; however, if you are interested or only available during those weeks please let us know. Should a space become available we will contact you.

expenses

We follow the  policy of the Dutch Association of Saint James for the compensation of personal expenses as a “hospitalero”. The Association administers the famous “albergue” at Roncesvalles just across the mountains from Saint Jean-de-Pied-de-Port.

Following this policy, “hospitaleros” at “L’Esprit du Chemin” pay for their transportation to and from Saint Jean-Pied-de-Port, including travel and health insurance as applicable. The accommodation (board and lodging) costs of the “hospitalero” are at the expense of "L'Esprit du Chemin".

More and more “hospitaleros” combine their work as volunteers in Saint Jean-de-Pied-de-Port with a  holiday in the region, for example, walking a part of the Camino.

insurance

The insurance of the hostel includes a third-party insurance.

accomodation
The attic in the hostel is the domain of the “hospitaleros”. There is a small bathroom and a simple but spacious kitchen. Huberta and Arno have a small bedroom there as well as a private room. There is also a room with two beds for the other “hospitaleros”. Bedding and towels are provided.

personal data
We require that all “hospitaleros” provide us with their address and telephone number(s), and the name, address and telephone number of someone who we can contact on their behalf in case of an emergency.
