The “Camino Francés”, from the border with France to Santiago, is the most famous road through Spain. But the attention is also drawn more and more to other roads, like the coastal road (“Camino del Norte”), and the Vía de la Plata (from Seville).

roads to Santiago


In former days it was the only way: a pilgrim to Santiago de Compostela departed at home and usually went on foot, back and forth. Ofcourse pilgrims used existing routes wherever possible. From almost every corner of Europe there used to lead roads to Santiago. Nowadays, more and more of these old roads are redescribed and waymarked.
