Many pilgrims like to do something in return for the hospitality they experienced on their own journey, for example, by working as a volunteer in a pilgrim office (photo above) or in a hostel ("Albergue") somewhere along the Camino.

- some "gîtes" work on a Christian basis: the "Haltes Chrétiennes".
- the Federación Española de Amigos del Camino de Santiago administers many "albergues" on several Caminos in Spain
- the Confraternity of Saint James administers “albergues” in Rabanal del Camino (Camino Francés) and Miraz (Camino del Norte)
